The Maxxis Rekon is a fast rolling XC and trail workhorse.

The Rekon is a great all-rounder for bikes in the 100-140mm travel range, especially in parts of Australia with hard, sandy or pea-gravel soil. This tyre packs a lot more grip than first meets the eye.

Given the very dry and dusty conditions that are prevalent in much of Australia, we think that many riders benefit from riding a lower-profile tread design like the Rekon as the smaller but more frequent knobs have a better chance of biting into dusty and hard packed surfaces than tyres with larger and more widely space patterns.

The Maxxis Rekon is the most popular XC or trail tyre we sell, we think this is a testament to its all-round predictable performance, decent value and broad appeal as a tyre suitable to most Aussie conditions.

Characteristics: Very fast rolling, good all-round grip for less aggressive terrain, reasonable braking.

Suitable Terrain: Hardpack, loose over hardpack, flow trails, XC. Excellent for dry summer Australian conditions or if you prioritise speed and efficiency on less technical trails. Think Stromlo or Lysterfield trails.

Riding Style: XC riders, marathon racers, or trail riders who want a fast-rolling set up that still inspires in the corners. Don’t let this fool you, it will hold up well on medium-technical terrain.

Pushys Recommended Combo’s for the Maxxis Rekon:

  • Rekon Front / Rear: Perfect for a 120mm trail bike on typical XC trails, especially if you prioritise up-hill performance.
  • Dissector Front OR Forekaster Front / Rekon Rear: More of a shreddy XC set up, perfect for someone who charges up the climbs but doesn’t want to sacrifice on the descents.
  • Rekon Front / Aspen OR Rekon Race Rear: The XC marathon choice. Great for XC racing where you want one of the fastest possible set up, but want to maintain some margin for error on the descents.
